Strong Women

Me and my partner Joseph, are presenting a scene where Portia and Brutus is arguing about Brutus not letting her know about the plot of killing Caesar. Portia gets angry over Brutus because he does not trust her, even if she is his wife. Portia then stabs herself to ensure that Brutus can trust her and believe in her. This significant of this passage is that Portia as a woman is very strong because she stood up to a man. Portia refers to about the gender difference. She tells Brutus that are you not telling me what is wrong just because I am a woman? Later she proves Brutus wrong by stabbing herself, showing that she can stand the pain and that she can also stand the fact that she would do anything to hear what is wrong with Brutus. This show that later on in the story, Brutus would start to acknowledge Portia more by trusting her and allowing her to know of what is happening with Brutus.

Act 2 scene 1

Brutus lines
(lines 288-290)
"You are my true and honorable wife,
As dear to me as are the ruddy drops
That visit my sad heart."

Portia lines (lines 291-302)
"If this were true, then should I know this secret.
I grant I am a woman; but withal
A women that Lord Brutus took to wife;
I grant I am a woman; but withal
A woman well reputed, Cato's daughter
Think you I am no stronger than my sex,
Being so father'd, and so husbaded?
Tell me your counsels, I will not disclose 'em
I have made a strong proof of my constancy
Giving myself a voluntary wound
Here, in the thigh: can I bear that with patience,
And not my husband’s secrets?

Brutus lines (lines 303-309)
O ye gods,
Render me worthy of this noble wife!
Hark, hark! One knocks. Portia, go in awhile;
And by and by thy bosom shall partake
The secrets of my heart.
All my engagements I will construe to thee,
All the charactery of my sad brows.
Leave me with haste.
